Sports Physio

Sports Physiotherapy

Injuries from sport can be painful and keep you from performing at your best or, even worse, keep you out of action entirely. At First Choice Health sports physiotherapy clinic, we aim to help our patients return to their previous activity, with the least likelihood of re-injury in the shortest time possible.

The physiotherapists at First Choice Health are experts at assessing, diagnosing and managing injuries and pain that may arise from sport or exercise. Find out more about our sports physio services below, or contact us now for more information.

Treatment of Sports-Related Injuries & Rehabilitation

Sports-related injuries might be chronic nagging problems from years of running, or an acute episode from your basketball game on the weekend.

Injuries that we commonly see at our clinic include:

  • Shoulder, hip, knee and ankle joint injuries
  • Soft tissue injuries to the muscles, tendons or ligaments that support and give power to the joints
  • Injuries that require surgery (our physiotherapists are well versed in pre and post operative care)

At your first consultation, our highly-skilled practitioners will comprehensively assess your injury, provide an accurate diagnosis, and discuss your expected time frame for recovery.

The physiotherapists at our clinic adopt a patient-focused approach to treatment, which ensures that you are actively involved with all aspects of your rehabilitation to ensure we meet your goals.

Your rehabilitation will likely incorporate a variety of techniques such as massage, strength, core strengthening and stretching exercises. Your physiotherapist will also provide an independent rehabilitation program to perform either at our practice, at home, or at your gym.

Prehabilitation

In the event that your condition requires further medical or surgical intervention, your treating physiotherapist will advise you on the most practical and evidence based path. If your condition requires a surgical opinion, the physiotherapists at First Choice Health have a close relationship with many orthopaedic surgeons at local hospitals and can make recommendations based on your needs.

Prior to your surgery, we also offer prehabilitation as a treatment and exercise regime, which is designed to:

  • Increase strength and range of movement of the limbs
  • Improve balance and coordination
  • Increase general conditioning and weight control
  • Make your recovery from surgery easier and quicker

Screening

Preventing an injury from happening is easier and better than having to treat it later.

Our physiotherapists are available to provide screening for sports-related deficiencies that could result in injury interrupted seasons.

The screening process uses sport specific tests performed by a physiotherapist to identify any potential shortcomings that could lead to injury during the sports season, and includes devising a sports physio rehab plan to correct/address the deficiencies. Screening can be done one-to-one or as a group at your local club or gym.
