Maia has over 20 years’ experience as a physiotherapist graduating from La Trobe University. Private practice has been her main focus after a few years experience in rehabilitation. Maia’s passion for helping people improve their quality of life has led her to complete courses such as Mc Kenzie, Mulligan, Dean Watson (headache), dry needling and Diane Lee’s Integrated Systems Model. This model is a treatment philosophy which centres around looking at the person as a whole rather than the “injured or painful” area, getting the whole story from the client to fully understand how past injuries/surgeries can influence a patients current presentation. This requires a comprehensive movement assessment to identify the cause(s) of the current issue which allows Maia to collaborate with her patients to provide a combination of exercises and manual therapy to achieve patient goals.
Having completed DMA clinical Pilates series and Polestar Pilates Rehabilitation, Maia’s other passion is Pilates, which she uses to both improve function/pain and sports performance. The extensive Polestar course, which requires certification and is recognised world wide, spans over 350 hours of practice and teaching. This ensures the highest level of understanding intelligent movement and the ability to get the most out of your body. Maia is also a mentor for Polestar Pilates and is excited to bring her vast knowledge of Pilates to First Choice Health and offer more Pilates classes with varied equipment for a full Pilates studio experience.
Outside of work, Maia keeps busy running around after her three children who are involved in high level basketball and football. In her spare time, she loves reading, Pilates, talking and eating.
